Herman Melville (1819–1891) was an American novelist, short story writer, and poet of the American Renaissance period. His best-known works include “Moby-Dick,“Bartleby, the Scrivener,” and “Billy Budd.” Melville’s works often explore themes of fate, human struggle, and the complexities of good and evil.
